DRILLING UNDER WAY FOR COMMERCE AND PRINCE AREA

CLOVIS (KSMX)- If you frequent the area where Prince Street meets 21st and Commerce Way, you may want to find some alternate routes. A state-led drilling project begins tomorrow to re-mediate a gasoline plume and plans to go through August.

The New Mexico Environment Department Petroleum Storage Tank Bureau and their contractor presented information earlier this year about the gasoline contamination which has been identified in that specific area and it is believed as of right now that the source of the contamination is from a much older gas tank. The coordination of the drilling program this summer is initially to investigate and re-mediate the gasoline plume using sonic drilling technology. The team is working very well with the City of Clovis to assure minimal traffic interruptions and minimal private property owner impacts.  There will be future meetings after this initial investigation on how they will proceed to re-mediate the problem.
