CURRY COUNTY SELECTED AS RECIPIENT OF THE 2019 WILDFIRE RISK REDUCTION PROGRAM GRANT

CLOVIS (KSMX)- Curry County has been selected as a recipient of the of 2019 Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Grant in the amount of $7,000. This project is called “Curry County Wildfire Preparedness Through Community Outreach” and is funded by the National Risk Fire Plan through Bureau of Land Management fund in cooperation and partnered with New Mexico Counties. Curry Count will use the grant funds to lease billboard space along the U.S. highways in Curry County that will display messages that will inform the community and travelers about wildfire safety and preparedness. David Kube, Curry County and Safety Director stated, “wildfires continue to be a major problem in New Mexico and Curry County wants to help educate the public as much as possible”.

As a reminder, State Forestry officials are asking residents to be extra careful with open flames this Memorial Day weekend. Because this area is impacted by drought and high winds it could be dangerous for fires. Dry grass is prime for fires.
