CURRY COUNTY OFFICIALS URGE FIRE SAFETY

CURRY COUNTY (KSMX) – Officials with Curry County and the volunteer fire departments are urging residents to use caution during the traditional spring clean-up season. As the spring season approaches, dry conditions and winds may cause issues when residents begin burning weeds and other vegetation around their property. Fire and Safety Director for Curry County David Kube says Fire departments usually see an increased number of calls for service due to open burns becoming out-of-control. He reminds residents that when burning, property owners should be in attendance at all times and have a readily available water supply. According to the Curry County Fire Ordinance, it allows for certain unrestricted open burning and fires must be thoroughly extinguished to prevent rekindling of the fire. Residents should also notify their local fire department prior to burning.
