CURRY COUNTY CRASH LEADS TO ONE FATALITY

CLOVIS (KSMX) – The beginning of the Thanksgiving holiday turned into a tragic start in Curry County. A news release from Sheriff Wesley Waller says one person died in a crash at about 5am Wednesday on State Road 209 near milepost 17. The investigation determined that 27-year-old Richardo Cruz, of Phoenix, Arizona, was headed south when his vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Cruz and six passengers, 23 Abigail Salcedo, 21 Monica Salceda, 31-year-old Priscilla Cruz, as well as two young children, survived the crash. However, a seventh passenger identified as Hortencia Rodriguez Martinez, was killed. Abigail was later transported to a Lubbock area hospital for treatment. The statement says the family was headed from Phoenix to Hobbs, New Mexico.
