CURRY AND ROOSEVELT COUNTIES DOWN IN UNEMPLOYMENT RATES FOR STATEWIDE APRIL PRELIMINARY REPORT

CLOVIS (KSMX)- The Workforce Solutions Department reported that the unemployment rate for the state of New Mexico held steady at 5.1% in March remaining virtually unchanged from February, while the national unemployment rate fell to 3.9% for March. Officials report that unemployment in the Curry county for the preliminary March report has decreased from 4.2% to 3.8%. Roosevelt County unemployment rates have also decreased from 4.4% to 4.0%.  During a year ending in March, payroll employment across New Mexico grew by 10,300 jobs or 1.3%. That doesn’t include agricultural work.The mining and construction sectors recorded the fastest job growth over the past year, followed by leisure and hospitality.Further analysis will be provided in the Labor Market Review scheduled for release on April 26.
