CREWS WORK TO PUT OUT ROOSEVELT COUNTY FIRE, ROADS REMAIN CLOSED

ROOSEVELT COUNTY (KSEL) – Despite wind gusts reaching 77 mph in our local area, crews remained on the scene late into Wednesday evening to contain the fires that had reach over 1000 acres of private property near South Roosevelt Road 6 and New Mexico 267. Additionally, as a result of the windy and dusty conditions, NM 467 was closed from U.S. 60/84 to Portales. The fire destroyed four homes as well as one person suffered from smoke inhalation. As of yesterday evening, officials reported that fires have been contained however S Roosevelt Road 6 west of S. R. R W and Y between NM 267 and SRR 6 are still closed. Other residents may return to their properties.
