Clovis woman arrested for negligently making firearm accessible to minor

Media Release, Clovis Police Department

Clovis, NM – On March 27th, 2025, at about 11:37 p.m., officers of the Clovis Police Department responded to 717 Axtell Street in reference to a violent domestic involving a juvenile suspect and victim.  The juvenile victim reported that the suspect had a pink pistol and had pointed it at the victim and her child.  When the suspect left her residence, he reportedly discharged the firearm.

An arrest warrant was generated for the 17-year-old male suspect who was taken into custody on March 28th, 2025 in the early morning hours.  The suspect was transported to the juvenile detention facility in Farmington, New Mexico, having been charged with multiple charges including abuse of a child, aggravated assault against a household member, and unlawful possession of a handgun by a person.

During the investigation, Detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home, recovering a pink and silver 9 mm pistol and a black in color .22 caliber pistol.  The weapons seized from the home were not securely stored and were easily accessible by the suspect (a minor).

Based on this, an arrest warrant was generated for Rachel Aranda (35 years of age) for Negligently Making a Firearm Accessible to a Minor.  On April 9, 2025, at about 11:52 p.m., Rachel Aranda turned herself in at the Clovis Police Department and was transported to the Curry County Adult Detention Center without incident.
