CLOVIS SWAT TEAM STANDOFF LEADS TO ONE ARREST THURSDAY EVENING

Reports of street barricades Thursday afternoon in downtown Clovis, lead to two-hour standoff with local law enforcement and Clovis resident. Around approximately 2:09 p.m., Detectives and Officers of the Clovis Police Department responded to assist Region 5 Drug Task Force in locating a wanted felon at 1109 Hickory Street, in Clovis, New Mexico. The suspect, Patrick Burgess (30 years of age), was wanted on multiple outstanding felony arrest warrants.
Shortly after police arrival, information was developed, leading to the generation and execution of a search warrant for Patrick Burgess, who was believed to have been armed and was inside of the home. The Clovis Police Department SWAT Team was activated and deployed to this call. This lead to about a dozen or so police vehicles lining the street in front of Burgess’ house. At about 3:32 p.m., Detectives and a Task Force Agent made contact with persons at the home, but Burgess did not surrender himself. A Clovis police officer then called through a megaphone, “let’s end this, please call me,” followed by a phone number was heard over the public address system.
Officers then deployed a surveillance drone into Burgess’ home before releasing the gas. Following this, SWAT breached the door to the home, along with windows and deployed an irritating gas into the home at about 5:36 p.m. At about 5:51 p.m., Burgess jumped out of a south facing window and attempted to flee, but was taken into custody.
Multiple arrest warrants have been served on Patrick Burgess including; Failure to Appear in District Court for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Failure to Appear in District Court on the charge of False Imprisonment and Battery on a Household Member, Failure to Appear in District Court on the charge of Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officers (3 separate warrants), and a Magistrate Court arrest warrant for Failure to Report to Jail/Correction Facility. Patrick Burgess has been transported to the Curry County Adult Detention Center.
Lieutenant Thron noted that this Thursday would make this the second time in less than two years Burgess had to be taken into custody with the assist of the SWAT team.
