Clovis Police working to ID suspect who shot at detective during high-speed chase

CLOVIS (KSMX)- Clovis police are asking for the community’s help identifying a suspect who shot at police during a high-speed chase late Tuesday.

According to the release from CPD, at around 11:36 pm, a detective with the Clovis Police Department was in the area of 10th and Ash when a dark blue Dodge Stratus vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. The vehicle did not have a license plate or any type of registration displayed. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle in the area of 8th and Sycamore where the vehicle pulled over and came to a stop. As the Detective exited his unit, the driver of the Dodge Stratus put the vehicle in reverse, almost striking the detective unit.

After the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed, a pursuit ensued which led to the area of the McDonalds located at Mabry and Schepps.

The Detective reported the vehicle pulling, then the driver stuck his arm out the window and fired several shots with a handgun, presumably in the Detective’s direction. As the pursuit continued through town, the Detective reported seeing what he described as sparks or flashes coming from the front driver side of the vehicle.

The pursuit was canceled near 21st and Echols.

At this time no further is known about the vehicle or the subject who was driving it. The Clovis Police Department is asking the community assistance to help in identifying the driver and the vehicle’s whereabouts.
