CLOVIS MAN SENTENCED TO NM DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

A Clovis man has been sentenced to serve 18 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections. According to the release, 33-year old Geno Mendoza was sentenced by the Honorable Mathew Chandler. Mendoza was arrested in November 2018 on the charges of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and bribery of a witness. The crime occurred when Mendoza, along with several other individuals, broke into the home of Richard Thomas. The victim was tied up and threatened at gunpoint, while being robbed of cash and other valuables. Mendoza was positively identified as one of the assailants that burglarized the home. A jury trial was set to begin in August; however, Mendoza changed his plea to guilty on aggravated burglary and armed robbery. Mendoza was sentenced to nine years on each count, to run consecutive, for a total of 18 years in the Department of Corrections.
