CLOVIS MAN FOUND GUILTY ON NUMEROUS CHARGES

CLOVIS (KSMX) – Yesterday a Clovis man was found guilty on a number of charges by a Curry County Jury, Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced. 25-year-old Xavier Loving was found guilty of shooting at an Occupied Dwelling, Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Incident stems from August 2017, when Loving walked past his neighbor’s house and shouted threats at him. When the neighbor came outside, Loving shot a single round at him, missing him; however, the bullet hit the house while the victim’s four-year-old daughter slept inside. No one was injured in the incident. Loving had been convicted of numerous felonies in the past ten years, and was prohibited from carrying a firearm. The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the one-day trial and ordered that sentencing be held at a later date. Loving faces up to 16 and one-half years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, which includes a four-year enhancement for prior felony convictions. Another pending case against Loving will go to trial in January on a charge of Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer.
