CLOVIS CITY COMMISSION BOARD SAYS GOODBYE TO BOARD MEMBER

CLOVIS (KSMX)- Clovis City Commissioner Ladona Clayton announced Thursday her resignation from the position effective July 12. She has served the City of Clovis for 39 years in various positions. Eastern New Mexico News reports, Clayton, who also resigned this year from her superintendent position at Clovis Christian Schools, is pursuing a new position as head of school at Tyler Street Christian Academy in Dallas. She announced her resignation at the last commission meeting giving the city 30 days to fill her position.

Among other agenda items discussed, there was unanimous approval of a motion from Commissioner Sandra Taylor-Sawyer to not participate in a multi-district lawsuit against manufacturers and suppliers of opioids It was discussed that among the 36 deaths in Curry County there was no way to know which deaths were caused to prescription opioids. Officials stated that the issue of prescription opioid abuse had declined and there is not a large problem in the area.
