CITY OF CLOVIS IDENTIFIES RABID SKUNK

In the last seven days, the City of Clovis Animal Control has recovered two skunks from the northeast side of Clovis. Both cases involved dogs fighting with or killing skunks. One of those skunks tested positive for rabies, and Animal Control is waiting for results from the New Mexico Department of Health/Epidemiology on the second skunk. In our area, we have historically seen rabies affecting skunks and foxes. The Clovis Police Department notes that rabies vaccinations are the only required vaccination for domesticated pets. If you notice skunks, foxes or wild animals in your neighborhood that are not acting right, contact the Clovis Animal Control (575-769-7893), or the Clovis Police Department(575-769-1921), selection one, if after hours.
