CLOVIS (KSMX)- Clovis High School has been awarded a three-year grant for the National Math and Science Initiative.

The grant, funded by the Department of Defense, pays for numerous elements involving Advanced Placement classes, a series of 15 college-level classes created by the College Board. Students in the United States or Canada take the classes for high school credit, with the option to take a year-end test for placement or class credit at American colleges and universities.

Clovis joins Onate as the only New Mexico high schools in NMSI, which has been part of 1,300 schools in 38 states with about 250 schools supported by Department of Defense grants. The grants cover teacher training that started this summer for CHS teachers, plus half of a student’s $94 fee for the optional end-of-year test and cash bonuses to students who excel on those tests.
