Joshua Mattox, a 4A and District 5-4A Coach of the year has been selected for and accepted the position of Clovis High School’s Head Basketball Coach. Coach Mattox hails most recently from the University of the Southwest, Hobbs, where he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach since his hire in 2021. Previous to the University of the Southwest, Mattox led Valencia High School as Head Boys’ Basketball Coach from 2018 to 2021, and assistant from 2015 to 2018.

During his first year as Valencia High School’s Head Coach, Mattox was named NMPreps 4A Coach of the Year as well as District 5-4A Coach of the Year, and in 2019, he led Valencia High School to a State Tournament win. A Belen High School graduate, Mattox began his coaching career in his home school district, holding positions as a track coach and eighth grade boys basketball coach from 2013-2015. In addition to coaching school teams, Mattox also works with summer camps through Point Guard College Basketball as an instructor and training camp director. Mattox earned an Bachelor’s Degree of Liberal Arts from the University of New Mexico. Mattox will assume this position immediately. This vacancy was created by the departure of Jaden Isler. Coach Isler finished his last season at CHS with a 6-22 season.
