Chamber votes in favor of BNSF overpass option 2 in support of Texico

Media Release, Curry County Chamber of Commerce:

The Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce unanimously voted in favor of alternative design number two in Resolution Number 2023-01, pertaining to the TXDOT proposed overpass at the Farwell, TX and Texico, NM BNSF railroad crossing.

The Chamber’s BNSF committee met last month to discuss the proposed overpass designs, which led to a rise in concern over the repercussions of alternative design number one. Alternative design number one will have a markedly negative economic impact for businesses and residents located in the immediate area.

Design number one is a surface level bridge that would affect approximately 25 sites that include commercial, residential and city that are essential to the prosperity of the Texico community. Design number one will also increase Public Safety response time approximately 30 minutes or more to the south side residents of Texico.

Alternative design number two, however, will have a smaller impact to the community as it is a proposed elevated intersection that would result in less infrastructure destruction and provide a more efficient mode to avoiding train delays.

Please join the Clovis/Curry County Chamber and its Board of Directors in aiding our community partners by supporting alternative design number two in Resolution Number 2023-01.
