Media Release, 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs
Cannon Air Force Base, NM – Around 12:07pm, Cannon Air Force Base Security Forces received reports of an active shooter on base. Base leadership takes these reports seriously, and as such, security forces immediately initiated active shooter protocol.
Active shooter protocol involves a base lockdown, seeking shelter immediately, and securing facilities. Additionally, no movement is allowed on or off base.
Cannon AFB Security Forces secured the area of concern and conducted sweeps across the base.
There are no reported injuries nor are there any suspects.
Cannon AFB has been deemed all clear as of 1:03pm.
“The safety of our Air Commandos and families is our highest priority — and we take reports of an active shooter seriously,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Robert Johnston, 27th Special Operations Wing commander. “Thank you to our security forces team and the wing for taking this seriously.”
