Cancellation of contact sports for fall 2020
CLOVIS (KSMX)- Clovis Municipal School District released a statement on the recently revised state public health order which went into effect Monday, July 13.
During a press conference held on July 9, the Governor announced the cancellation of all fall 2020 contact sports for public schools. Upon further clarification from the Governor’s Office, the fall 2020 cancellation of contact sports extends to practices and workouts.
Additionally, any practices or workouts conducted by non-contact sports teams, such as cross country, must be held in adherence to public health orders. Athletes, coaches, and all other participants are required to wear masks at all times while exercising and are also required to practice social distancing and other procedures as outlined by the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA).
“It is imperative that athletes, staff members, and all others present at team practices and workouts observe public health orders governing school sports programs.”
The District has been advised by the Governor’s Office that failure to follow these practices could result in further cancellations of athletic programs.
