BILL REQUIRING HIGHER MAINTENANCE OF LIVESTOCK PROGRESSING

NEW MEXICO (KSMX) – From the State Senate, a bill that would require the Department of Transportation to maintain fences, cattle guards and livestock warnings is working its way through committee. The Department of transportation would be required to post warning signs at least every two miles along unfenced highways, warning motorists to exercise caution and also construct fences along all highways under its jurisdiction. Those provisions were left out of a state law last year. Under Senate Bill 121, ranchers and other cattle ranchers would also be required to keep cattle off state highways.
