CLOVIS (KSMX)- Vitalant, formerly know as United blood services, across the state of New Mexico has gathered some of the most important people in emergency personnel that not only gives us a fun and healthy competition to take part in but also save lives.

Clovis Fire Department and Law Enforcement in the area hosted Vitalant’s Battle of the Badges July 30-31 and the competition was real between the departments. Vitalant had already seen 36 people in the first day collecting more than 50 units of blood.

A Vitalant spokesperson commented that while they are based out of Roswell, they put this competition on all the way from Carlsbad, Hobbs to the Clovis areas. “You would not believe the kind of competitiveness you’ll see. Families of the departments, friends and even the department personnel take part in it to win the plaque the winner receives and, of course, bragging rights”.

According to the American Red Cross, one donation can save as many as three lives, and someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds.
