Armed Suspect, Jose Adrian Negrete, Arrested

CLOVIS, NM, From the local Sheriff’s Office,

“On Saturday, April 29th, at about 4:34 PM, Deputies of the Curry County Sheriff’s Office went to 511 Curry Road 14 to serve a search warrant for a fugitive that has been eluding arrest since 2019. That suspect is Jose Adrian Negrete, 41, of this address. Negrete was reportedly armed.

The Sheriff’s Office called out over a public address system and ordered everyone out of the residence. Two other subjects in the residence came out, but Negrete did not. The subjects that came out did verify that Negrete was hiding in the residence. Many more announcements were given by Deputies that they had a search warrant and arrest warrants for Negrete, and he was ordered to surrender. After over an hour of announcements, multiple canisters of tear gas were launched and thrown into the residence. Many more announcements were made to no avail.

Negrete could be heard coughing inside, but he still did not surrender. One of the subjects that had been inside told Deputies he was likely hiding in an area the gas could not reach. They also reported this area was made for hiding from law enforcement.

At about 6:07 PM, a Curry County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiator was able to contact Negrete by phone. After several conversations with the negotiator, and after Negrete was allowed to speak to his girlfriend, he agreed to surrender. At about 6:22 PM, Negrete came out and was taken into custody without further incident.

Negrete was taken to the Curry County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender (4th-degree felony), Aggravated Fleeing from Law Enforcement (2 counts, both 4th-degree felonies), Driving on a suspended or revoked license, and other various traffic charges. Negrete is being held without bond.”
