AIR FORCE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC SESSION REGARDING CONTAMINATED WATER

CANNON, AFB (KSMX) – The Air Force announced that they will be hosting an information session to provide an update to residents about the ongoing efforts pertaining to the firefighting chemicals that were found in drinking water sources around Cannon Air Force Base. This coming Friday, the information session will take place at the North Annex of the Clovis Carver Public Library from 5 to 7 PM. Experts from the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, the New Mexico Environment Department, the New Mexico Department of Agriculture and other agencies will provide information and answer questions. The Civil Engineer Center recently sampled 25 drinking water sources near the southeast corner of Cannon, and three locations exceeded the acceptable levels for the firefighting chemicals PFOA and PFOS. The Air Force is providing alternate drinking water at those locations and will work with property owners to determine a long-term solution.
