On the morning of Wednesday November 2nd an alert was sent out to local residents (Curry/Roosevelt County) stating there was a vehicle crash on Hwy 60/84, Mile Marker 348 west of Melrose. Travelers should expect delays in both directions as emergency crews are on the scene. At the time of the alert, approximately around 7:00 am, there was no information on the status of those involved in the vehicle incident.
Around 10:20 am on Wednesday, Cannon Airforce Base issued the following statement” A Cannon Air Force Base Airman was killed in a vehicle accident on 60/84 East in Curry County, NM on November 2, 2022. The name of the service member is being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified. Details surrounding the death are under investigation by the Curry County Sherriff’s Office.”
As of 4:00 pm the Curry County Sheriff’s office concluded a portion of their investigation of the incident and released the following information, “On Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 4:40 am, Curry County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on US 60/84, near Curry Road O, west of Clovis. The investigation indicates that a 2014 BMW, driven by Shaun McNair (20, Cheyenne, WY), was traveling west on US 60/84. Near the intersection with Curry Road O, the vehicle left the roadway, collided with a tree and then overturned. McNair died at the scene.
It is believed that McNair was the only occupant and was in route to Cannon Air Force Base to report for duty. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.”
