35 YEAR OLD WOMEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO SUNDAY’S HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT

As of March 7, 2022, the Portales Police Department released the identification of the owner of the vehicle of the hit-and-run incident that took place Sunday March 6th around 6:50 p.m. The incident happened while a 12-year-old boy was crossing the street after leaving church Sunday evening. The alleged vehicle, described as a white four door car close to the make of a Nissan Altima, was traveling west on 18th Street and struck the juvenile between Avenue H and Avenue I. According to a circulating FaceBook post, the victim is currently on a ventilator, and is suffering from serval injuries including, a broken ankle, a broken arm, internal bleeding, as well as an artery block in his neck, and bleeds on the brain.
On Monday afternoon, 35-year-old Christine Shuman was arrested by the Portales Police Department on charges related to the March 6th hit-and-run of a juvenile on West 18th Street. Shuman has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving great bodily harm or death (3rd degree felony), careless driving and other traffic related charges. She was booked into the Roosevelt County Detention Center and will be awaiting further court proceedings.
