2023 Civics Bee showcases New Mexico’s future leaders

Saturday, August 19th, was the annual Statewide Civics Bee in partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The event proved to be yet another exciting opportunity to support the future leaders of New Mexico and to encourage youth in civic engagement.
Middle school participants hailed from Roswell, Farmington, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and beyond. A student from Lincoln Middle School in Rio Rancho took home first place, followed by a student from C.V. Koogler Middle School in Aztec. Third place, a student from Mountain View Middle in Roswell.
The top three students received $1,000, $500, and $250 prizes, respectively. Every participating middle-schooler in the competition took home a new Lenovo tablet to aid in their future academic pursuits.
Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales served as featured speaker for the evening. The event was made possible by the following sponsors: The University of New Mexico, Fidelity Investments and Bank of Albuquerque, Bueno Foods, NM Education Plan, Wagner Equipment Co., Dion’s, and Xcel Energy.
