2020 Municipal Elections are right around the corner

CLOVIS (KSMX)- As a reminder, election day for the 2020 Municipal Elections is March 3. Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m. at the Portales Memorial Building Auditorium.

Early voting will be conducted in the Clovis Municipal Clerk’s until February 29, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Early voting in Clovis will also be conducted at the Clovis Police Substation at the North Plains Mall. The site will be open through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Absentee Voting applications for ballots will be accessible until 5:00 p.m. February 27, with February 28, as the last day to mail ballots to voters. The last day for early voting will be Saturday, February 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In Clovis, the 2020 municipal races include four city commission seats, one magistrate judge position, and the election of a new Mayor. Last night 16 candidates filed into the Clovis Carver Library to share why they would be the best fit for each position.

In Portales, candidates for Wards A, C, and D are running unopposed.  Ward B is the only contested race. Incumbent Jessica Jean Yi will run against Daniel Boan.

The locations the City of Clovis will be using for this election are:

·      Trinity United Methodist Church, 1320 W 21st Street

·      Clovis Fire Station #5, 220 E Brady Street

·      Clovis Aquatic Center (Exercise Room), 1700 E. 7th Street

·      Absentee: Municipal Clerk’s Office, 321 N. Connelly Street

·      Early: Municipal Clerk’s Office, 321 N. Connelly Street
