SHOTS FIRED AT LUBBOCK MALL SUNDAY EVENING

On December 19th, 2021 the Lubbock Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a ‘shots-fired’ call at the South Plains Mall early Sunday evening. Shoppers in the mall were told that there was an active shooter in the mall at approximately 5:30 pm. Lieutenant Leath McClure spoke on behalf of The Lubbock Police Department during a press conference held at South Plains Mall around 7:15 pm CST, addressing the current knowledge about the shooting.

The press conference disclosed the following information:

As of Sunday evening, December 19th, 2021, there has been only one confirmed shooter, they are not currently in custody, but an investigation as to their whereabouts is ongoing. There has also been no confirmation as to how many shooters are responsible. Two minor injuries have been reported from the shooting; one believed to be sustained while fleeing the area and the other has been reported as a graze from a gunshot. The shooting occurred in an open common area inside the mall, approximately around Dillards.

As of the press conference, the South Plains mall has been secured of any potential shooters. This case is an ongoing investigation as we wait for suspected to be taken into custody. Additional information will be available as we get it.
