Fatal motor crash in Clovis

Media Release, Clovis Police Department
Clovis, NM – On Sunday, March 8, 2026, at approximately 1:42 a.m., the Clovis Police Department Dispatch Center received a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Grand St. and 7th St. The caller reported that one of the vehicles was on fire and that the crash involved a semi-truck and a black passenger vehicle.
Officers from the Clovis Police Department responded to the scene along with personnel from the Clovis Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames with two occupants still inside the front passenger compartment. The fire was extinguished; however, both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.
A third occupant of the vehicle had been ejected during the collision. That individual was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to a hospital in Texas for further treatment.
The Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team was activated and is currently investigating the incident. Although the investigation remains ongoing, preliminary findings indicate the black Cadillac was traveling eastbound on 7th Street at a high rate of speed when it crossed over a concrete median into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a slow-moving semi-truck.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured but was evaluated at the scene by Clovis Fire Department EMS personnel as a precaution.
