DAYCARE DUO SENTENCED

PORTALES (KSEL) – Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced that the mother/daughter daycare duo, Mary and Sandi Taylor were sentenced yesterday. The Honorable Judge Donna Mowrer sentenced Mary to the maximum 36 years in prison. Her daughter, Sandi, was sentenced to 30 years, with six years being mitigated due to Sandi being forthcoming with police. Mary and Sandi Taylor were convicted last month on charges of abuse after leaving two children in a hot vehicle in 2017.Evidence presented at trial showed that the Taylor Tots Day Care did not follow the proper rules and procedures mandated by CYFD including failing to do headcounts, driving the children without permission, and failing to have proper care giver to child ratio. Maliyah Jones, died later at the hospital and Aubriauna Loya was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital. The Taylors request for an appeal bond was denied and they will be transported to the New Mexico Department of Corrections to begin serving their sentences.
