Clovis juveniles charged after gunfire and pursuit

Media Release, Clovis Police Department

Clovis, NM – On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at about 8:17 P.M., the Clovis Police Dispatch received a report of a domestic disturbance in progress at 3908 Weston Street. The caller stated they could hear a male yelling at a female at the residence.

Officers responded to the scene and observed a male subject running into the residence while holding a handgun. The male told officers he had additional firearms inside and repeatedly asked officers to shoot him. Officers had also received information indicating the male was intoxicated. The subject then pointed a handgun at one of the responding officers, prompting activation of the Clovis Police Department SWAT Team.

The SWAT Team arrived and assumed control of the incident. Working in coordination with the SWAT Negotiations Team, officers attempted to establish contact with the subject, later identified as 27-year-old Reggie Burgos Jr. During negotiations, Burgos repeatedly taunted officers by opening and closing the front door, yelling obscenities, and intermittently pointing a handgun in the direction of officers on scene.

After several hours, Burgos stopped responding to negotiators. The SWAT Team deployed chemical munitions and was subsequently able to persuade Burgos to exit the residence and surrender without further incident.

Burgos was treated for exposure to the chemical munitions and transported to the Curry County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, a third-degree felony.

Detectives with the Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit searched the residence and recovered the handgun used during the incident.
