CLOVIS MAN SENTENCED TO SERVE 12 YEARS

CLOVIS (KSMX) – A Clovis man was sentenced on Monday; Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced. 25-year-old Xavier Loving was sentenced to serve 12 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, which is to be followed by 4.5 years of supervised probation. In December, a Curry County jury found Loving guilty of Shooting at an Occupied Dwelling, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The crime stems from August 2017, when Loving shot at his neighbor’s house while a young child was asleep inside. No one was injured in the incident. Loving had been convicted of numerous felonies, and was prohibited from carrying a firearm. The Honorable Judge Fred Van Soelen presided over the case, noting that the crimes were serious violent offenses, and as a result, Loving will have to serve 85% of his time before he can be considered for parole.
