BREAKING: EMERGENCY OFFICIALS EVACUATING PORTION OF COUNTY DUE TO FIRE
Portales (KSEL) – UPDATE 3:00 P.M.: Crews continue to contain the fire, however they are asking that EVERYONE stay out of the area. Visibility is ZERO and crews will have a very hard time seeing anyone. The best thing you can do right now, is stay away from this area. No more evacuations are currently announced EXCEPT for the areas already in place.
Also, due to the fire, Portales School busses will NOT be traveling in that direction. Children can be picked up at Valencia Elementary. At
this time this affects bus one, two, five, eight, and twenty-three. Contact Administration for more details.

UPDATE (2:15PM): the large brush/grass fire continues to burn north of NM-267 (Floyd Highway) and east of Roosevelt Road W. Residents north of Floyd Highway, and east of Roosevelt Road W are being evacuated with the 1st Baptist Church in Portales acting as a safe haven for those evacuated. If you need help with evacuation, please contact the dispatch center by calling 911. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Heads up folks in Portales. There is a large fire near South Roosevelt Road 6 and South Roosevelt Road Y, heading North. At this time, deputies are on scene evacuating the area. If you are in this area, emergency personnel are asking that you evacuate. – Cari
